Setting the Vibe

Setting the VibeDo you take the time to set the vibe for the day?

What would it take for you to choose a vibe you would like to be, and then do something to begin to be that?

Living is more than just thinking. It includes feeling. And most people forget that they can choose the feeling they would like to be. This doesn’t mean that you will automatically be that, but if you know where you are going, you’re more likely to get there.

People are always asking me what I do first thing in the morning. Well there are only so many firsts in the day (one), and it’s not about doing one thing. It’s about riding the wave. This means that I set the course and then do something that will bring me closer to the feeling I desire. Then I do something else, then something else, and then something else. The idea is to feel the feeling over and over until it becomes my normal state of being. The doing leads to the being (unless you can just drop in and be).

My overall desire is to be high vibe no matter what. Thus, I’m looking for experiences that match high vibe (kindness, love, peace, gratitude, calmness, joy, and so on). I sculpt out my mornings to do this. Once in a while, other things intrude such as a business meeting. But, since I’m flexible, this isn’t a big deal, and I’ll choose one thing to set my vibe before going to the meeting. (And it helps that my husband sleeps late and that my kids are grown and out, so I have less interruptions and quiet in the morning.)

The first thing (after the bathroom stuff) is asking my body, “What would you like to do next to be high vibe?” Asking the question opens the possibilities. It’s as if I have a smorgasbord to choose from.

The following is a partial list of things I might do in the mornings.

• Meditate
• Journal
• Exercise (swimming, walking, yoga, or biking)
• Qigong
• Read (spiritual or research)
• Balance energy
• Have fun
• Sex
• Write (It doesn’t matter if this is “work.” As long as I have the idea, I write.)
• Have a cup of tea and daydreaming
• Breathe deeply and slowly
• List (and feel) grateful
• Write a thank you note
• Read inspirational quotes
• Write a script of the day, from the end of the day, telling me how awesome the day “was”
• Write a love letter to myself

This is what I do. What do you do to set the tone for the day and raise your vibe each morning?
