Take Action

The other day, I was taking Shoshi and two of Bruce’s granddaughters to Barnes and Noble.  This is one of our favorite dates.  Anyway, we all walked up to the car.  I unlocked my door from the driver’s door.  Then unlocked the other doors from the button on my door. I got in, put my seatbelt on, and started the car.  The three of them looked at me through the closed doors giving me the evil eye.  They were waiting for the doors to magically open.

Not really, they just weren’t aware that I’d unlocked them.  But they hadn’t taken the one step they needed to.  They hadn’t opened their doors.  Now, I’m willing to do a lot for them – buy books, take them out to lunch, drive them around, and so on.  But I draw the line at actually opening the doors when they are perfectly capable of doing so.

We all laughed about it, and then it dawned on me.  There are many activities during the day that are “speaking” to us.  In this case, the message was, “Take action.  It’s up to you.”

When people do consciousness transformation, many people think that if they think and feel it, that whatever it is will fall in their laps.  While this is possible, there is usually some action that is required. The clue is to pay attention to the internal nudges you get and then take the inspired action those nudges are pushing you toward – even if they don’t make sense.

Perhaps you have the idea to go take a walk.  You have been sitting at your computer and want to finish whatever you are working on. However, if you follow the nudge and go for a walk outside, your mind can wander and breathe.  (Yes, I said your mind can breathe.  Isn’t that what you are doing when oxygen is clearing your mind?)

Then while on the walk, the “exact right” idea pops in to your awareness.  You mull it over and are anxious to get back to your computer to implement it.  Whatever you are working on just got tons better.  You listened to the inner nudge and took an inspired action.

Taking action is all about following through and taking personal responsibility for yourself. Here are a few questions to help you explore taking action:

  • What are you waiting for?
  • If you don’t know what action to take, what action could you take?
  • What are you willing to go the extra mile for?
  • What would it take for you to recognize that you are worth it?
  • If you were to take action, what action would you take?
  • Whatever is in the way of you taking action, are you willing to release and let it go forever?

Taking action doesn’t have to be a big deal.  It can be as easy as opening the door.  After all, the Universe has already unlocked it for you. It’s up to you to recognize the action and take it.
