Whatever WorksWhat if there is no right or wrong, good or bad? What if the only criteria is does it work or doesn’t it? Life would be so simple.

We could let go of all the judgment, criticism, worry, anxiety, accusations, and so on. If the only criteria is does it work, then it’s only a matter of looking at what your dreams are, believing in them with your whole heart, clearing away what doesn’t work, focusing on what does work, and then allowing your desires to manifest.

Even though this is simple, we complicate it because we aren’t trained to think in this way, and we have the habit of worrying about the future or mulling over the past while we focus on what went wrong. Then on top of that, we are trying to “figure it out.”

Here’s a hint: this way of thinking is just a habit. And you can change a habit. YES! WOO HOO!

Let’s take a look at each part of what makes something work.

Know your Dreams: There is a quote that my dad posted in his office: “If you don’t know where you are going, then any road will take you there.” In short, if you have a clear idea of what you dream, hope, desire or wish, then you will be able to head in that direction and won’t get totally sidetracked by the next shiny object.

Imagine walking out of your house. You wander aimlessly until you come to your front door again. That’s the end of the walk. Or you know that you are hungry, so you head to the grocery store or a restaurant. Walking aimlessly is the same as not knowing what your dream is. Finding something to eat by heading to the grocery store or restaurant is knowing that you are hungry and choosing to do something about it.

Know your dreams. Take the time to dream and choose what it is you would like to have, be or do. For without knowing them, you may never achieve them.

Believe: “If you believe you can’t, you are right. If you believe you can, you are also right.” is another popular quote. What you believe becomes true. The idea is to truly believe with your whole heart. If you only believe with your mind, then your heart is fighting against your dreams being fulfilled. And guess what? The heart is where the power is. Whatever you feel dominates over what you think.

Clear: This is when you flick away anything that doesn’t work. There are many ways to flick away whatever is getting in the way of what does work. One of the easiest is to just flick away the feeling as if it was lint on your clothing. This may need to be repeated a few times until you feel lighter.
It is important to acknowledge that you are willing to release and let go of whatever is in the way of what works for you. However, it is also important to realize that if you only focus on what doesn’t work, you will get more of what doesn’t work, since what you focus on is what you get.

Focus: Whatever you focus on is what you will have more of, because the Universe sees that your attention is on x and gives you more x. In essence, your attention on something is broadcasting your desire. It is similar to you saying: “Hey Universe, my attention is on x. This is what I’d like more of. Please bring me experiences that match x.”

Thus, if you are worrying about everything that can go wrong, the Universe thinks you want more things that can go wrong and delivers that to you. To have something else, shift your focus to things that are working for you. Then keep noticing more and more things that work for you. The Universe will give you more things that work for you.

Allow: Which brings us to allowing. As wonderful as it is to flick away the “lint,” it is even more important to focus on what it is you do desire and simply allow it to be in your life existence. To do this, state what it is you would like to happen, turn an imaginary dial until you feel an expansion, and then say, “I allow.” For example, say: “Kindness.” Then pretend you are turning a dial. Feel for the moment when it clicks into place and you have a feeling of expanding into a sigh. Then say: “I allow.”

By doing this exercise with many different desires (sentences are not needed), you will notice that you will feel a sense of calmness. You are literally telling the Universe that you allow your desire into your life experience.

It’s time to give up right or wrong, good or bad. Focus on what you do desire, believe in the possibility of you having it, clear away whatever is blocking it from coming to you, focus on what does work and lastly, be open to allowing your desire to show up. The measure is simply: Does it work or doesn’t it.
